About the Film

A transgender medium is haunted by imposter syndrome as she struggles to use her supernatural gifts to find belonging among the living. When certain members of her seance circle grapple with the unknown, fear takes over and the veil is lifted—revealing truths that may not be so black and white.

Supporting Role 30’s - 40’s, Female.
Harriet fights for an extension on her nearly finished book after getting accepted to join an elusive medium’s seance circle. After experiencing the unexplainable she begins to question if the truth is what she really seeks.

Tom
Supporting Role - 30’s, Male.
Tom has a deep faith in God but none in himself. Surrounded by the mysteries of his faith he struggles to accept the divine spark within. While on the cusp of completing Seminary School Tom demands answers to his questions and is willing to look beyond the church walls to find his divine connection.

Supporting Role 60’s + , Female. Haunted by the trauma of long ago, Sitter #1 is left behind with nothing but family photos, and the words of a reluctant medium.

Wendy
Supporting Role - 40’s - 50’s, Female. Tired and desperate from a life of constant grief, Wendy sets aside her skepticism to find relief and escape.

Priest
Supporting Role, 50’s +, Male. Intimate with his faith yet distant from the outside world The Priest is tasked with preparing Seminarians to lead their own flocks. As one of his students loses his path he must find the right words to bring him back into the fold.

HYPHAE Community is a place for BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ artists and makers of all kinds. After three years of producing the Yet Another Queer Pop-Up Market, HYPHAE has seen firsthand that 2SLGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC vendors face unique challenges when building sustainable businesses through creative markets. While our region is rich in creativity, vending operates within its own cycles and realities—often shaped by identity as much as by the broader arts landscape.

HYPHAE is working to build systems, connections, and a learning community to support vendors at all stages—from those new to markets to more established creatives and side-project entrepreneurs. This community will grow through a deeper understanding of vendors’ needs, goals, and experiences.

We Contain Multitudes

Call for Submissions

Artists are invited to submit up to five creative work(s) for consideration to be included in a curated art show responding to the prompt: We Contain Multitudes. All mediums are welcome. The show aims to “build a container that uplifts, centers and celebrates the multitudes that we hold within ourselves, emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually, and in community from a 2SLGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC perspective,” says curator, M.

M is a local creative and entrepreneur who co-founded Yet Another Queer Pop-Up Market, HYPHAE, and Rooted Resilience and who seeks to create ventures that build economic stability and belonging for the vibrant community of 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC creatives who are often under-represented in the art world. Their own creative work explores and affirms the multitudes we contain through the lens of the natural world, identity, and the sacred.

The curated collective will be on view from Thursday, June 4th to Friday, June 26th at the Split Level Gallery in the Northampton Center for the Arts at 33 Hawley, a project of the Northampton Community Arts Trust.

Casting Call: Grey Veil Haunt

Slanted Ceiling Pictures is now casting 7 supporting roles, as well as 5 non-speaking roles for a feature film about the supernatural, finding community, and contending with the unknown.

Filming June through November 2026 in the Northampton, Greenfield, and Shelburne Falls areas. This is a paid opportunity with a non-union/non-SAG AFTRA covered production. Seasoned actors, spirited amateurs and the entirely uninitiated welcome to apply.

About the Album

Role Model is a “künstlerroman,” an artist’s coming-of-age story, that soundtracks Indë’s mission to become the Black queer role model their community lacked during their childhood. The evening-length concert will present the album in its entirety, alongside a live community choir that the audience is invited to join in song.

The 25 year-old artist, mentee of the late gospel/blues/roots singer Evelyn Harris, amplifies the representation of queer Black people in the River Valley, manifesting the figures who were absent from their upbringing in the boonies. Indë’s work calls to mind a quote from filmmaker Marlon Riggs: “It is necessary to constantly remind ourselves we are not an abomination.” Safe spaces for queer & trans BIPoC are few and far between, especially as fascism sinks its teeth deeper into Turtle Island; Indë’s work creates a transformative environment for vulnerability, solidarity, and the centering of QTBIPoC voices.

In Indë’s own words:

“This anthemic pop-soul love song welcomes listeners to my chosen family with a sonic embrace. In “COME ON HOME,” I paint a picture of a home for free spirits, with soulful runs and playful lyrics slung over a swung groove featuring guitarist Hazel Basil, whose playing immediately harkens to Prince’s signature smooth distortion. The polyphony of the Queer Joy Chorus adds a robust dimension to “COME ON HOME,” expanding the scope of my work from a solitary artist to a community leader as we sing ‘my love, my faith, my gender I’m done with pretendin’ in gospel harmony.”

The accompanying video features a fully queer cast, choreography by Jules Skloot, and special appearances by Qween Jean and Mr. J (AKA Jed Jasper) — with the familiar backdrop of 50 Arrow Gallery grounding the story in local creative space.

Translate Gender’s Annual Celebration & Resource Fair Announced

At the end of the month, Translate Gender will host its 4th Annual Trans Day of Visibility Resource & Art Fair! This event commemorates Trans Day of Visibility celebrated internationally on the last day of March—bringing awareness and honor to trans people all over the world.

TG has celebrated the last few years with a community-wide Fair, and it has become a sacred space for trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive artists, comrades, orgs, and community members to come together in solidarity and resistance. Join them this year on Saturday, March 28th from 11AM—4PM in Holyoke.

Pioneer Valley Roller Derby

Since 2006, Pioneer Valley Roller Derby has set a standard of inclusion, as the first flat track roller derby league to offer both women’s and men’s teams and the first to offer an all-/no-gender team.

They are a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization with a mission to make roller derby open and accessible to all, and to foster personal growth, equity, and camaraderie in each other, the league, and the wider community. They practice in Holyoke, South Amherst, and Greenfield, MA.

The Grey Veil Haunt Gets the Green Light

Seed&Spark Campaign Success

Thanks to an outpouring of community support, The Grey Veil Haunt has successfully raised $12,218 through its Seed&Spark campaign — and this film is officially moving forward.

The project has been cultivating roots in the Valley from the start. Through a partnership Bloom Local, the filmmakers forged connections with local businesses and creatives, including a collaboration with the Queer Joy Chorus. Recordings of the Chorus’ voices are being woven into the film’s original musical score.

Production is set to begin this spring, with the bulk of filming taking place over the summer. The team is targeting a December 2026 post-production wrap, with a festival run planned for early 2027.

Every element of this production is grounded in the Western Massachusetts Queer and Trans community. For the film’s original musical score, director Lilly Dickinson partnered with Mara Levi, Musical Director of the Queer Joy Chorus (a program of the Queer Joy Collaborative), to create the audio samples at its heart.

Meet lead cast member Daphne Always

Daphne Always is a performing artist with over a decade in New York nightlife, stage, and screen. Praised as "the exceedingly charming star chanteuse" by TimeOut New York and "a beacon of resilience, joy, and authenticity" by GayIceland, she's a resident hostess at Alan Cumming's East Village cabaret Club Cumming, as well as the House of Yes, Bathtub Gin, and the Lower East Side's variety theater, the Slipper Room.

Always’ acting highlights include "Regina" in the Drama Desk-nominated play The Voices In Your Head, features in HBO's The Deuce and Marc Webb's The Only Living Boy in New York, and music video appearances for Ezra Furman, Fred Schneider, The Knocks, and ZHU. Her own short film with Emmy-nominee Amanda Mustard, SECONDS, appeared in festivals around the world.

An Exquisite Project Takes Shape

Western Mass-based musical collab. featuring Jess Martin, Erin McKeown, Nate Mondschein, James Robinson, and Joe “Joey” Fitzpatrick

Singer songwriter, Jess Martin recently launched Exquisite Project, a four-song collaborative experiment built around the “exquisite corpse” writing exercise — where artists respond to each other’s work in sequence, without seeing the full picture, letting instinct and surprise shape the final result. In this case, the process centers producer voice: each producer was invited not just to polish a song, but to meaningfully redirect it.

The first release is Bridge of No Returning, produced by Joe “Jopey” Fitzpatrick (Jopey Studios, Belchertown), Martin’s longtime collaborator. The song emerged from a brand-new ensemble and a process focused on listening, groove, and collective shape-making. A radio launch is planned for this week, with more releases on the way.

“At Jopey Studios, I’m always interested in process — how players listen to each other and shape a song together,” says Fitzpatrick. “Bridge of No Returning came out of that kind of collaborative tightening, and it fits naturally into the spirit of Exquisite Project.”

Other producers in the project include Erin McKeown, Nate Mondschein, and James Robinson — all Western Massachusetts–based artists.

Erin McKeown is an internationally known musician, writer, and producer celebrated for their prolific disregard of stylistic boundaries. Over the past 20 years, Erin has released 11 full-length albums and written for film, television, and theater, all while refining a bold, playful mix of American musical forms. Their work on Not Callin’ You a Vampire pushed the song into theatrical, camp-forward territory:

“When Jess first approached me about the Exquisite Project, I was thrilled. It is just the kind of invitation and provocation my creative practice embraces… The song [Not Callin’ You A Vampire] opened up when we leaned into theatricality, camp, and rhythm — letting voice and character excavate something even more mischievous and alive than first proposed.”

Exquisite Project grows out of Martin’s interdisciplinary work with Shadow, Sound, Spectacle; their troupe specializes in songwriting, storytelling, puppetry, and multimedia. The current show, Literary Monsters, is part concert, part puppet show, and part ghost story — a theatrical reimagining of classic literary monsters through live music, shadow puppetry, video, and narrative — all through a queer lens.

Shadow, Sound, Spectacle recently received funding to bring the show to Brockton and Easthampton, and are exploring festival and regional presentations in 2026.

A Seed&Spark campaign has been launched for The Grey Veil Haunt, an independent feature directed by Lilly Dickinson and produced by Slanted Ceiling Pictures.

The campaign is focused on raising the final funds needed to move into production. The script is complete, the core team is in place, and the project is ready to be green-lit once this last stage of financing is secured.

The Grey Veil Haunt is a small, character-driven supernatural story that leans toward mood and uncertainty rather than spectacle. It’s a project built around performance, restraint, and atmosphere, and one that benefits from a careful, intentional production process.

Seed&Spark offers a way for supporters to be directly involved in bringing the film into production. Contributions go toward essential production costs and help move the project from planning into active filmmaking.

Those interested in supporting local, thoughtfully made films are invited to explore the campaign, share it out, and follow along as the project moves toward its premiere.

Slanted Ceiling Pictures x Queer Joy Collaborative

The Grey Veil Haunt is an original feature film currently in pre-production from Slanted Ceiling Pictures. The film follows a transgender medium haunted by imposter syndrome as she struggles to use her supernatural gifts to find belonging among the living. When certain members of her séance circle confront the unknown, fear takes hold and the veil is lifted, revealing truths that may not be so black and white.

To create audio samples for the film’s original musical score, director Lilly Dickinson partnered with Mara Levi, Executive Director of the Queer Joy Collaborative, and Musical Director of the Queer Joy Chorus.

Conjuring Sound

“One of The Grey Veil Haunt’s main themes is finding belonging and community,” Dickinson shared. “So it was an absolute honor, and incredibly fitting, to get to work with the talented and welcoming community of the Queer Joy Chorus.”

For Mara Levi, the collaboration was deeply energizing. “Working with Lilly has been such a blast—not just for me, but for the members of our chorus,” Levi said. “She shared her vision of the film, which immediately resonated because of its layered meanings and Queer protagonists. Then she caught the hearts of the chorus with her fascinating musical ideas.”

To build the soundscape, Dickinson worked with small groups of singers at a time, capturing layered vocal textures to weave together in post-production. Featuring human voices was a deliberate choice meant to echo the spirits the main character is trying to reach.

“The singers really captured the spirit of the film in ways I could have never done on my own,” Dickinson reflected.

The collaboration proved meaningful on both sides. “What’s most fulfilling for me,” Levi added, “is getting to collaborate with other Queer artists—to support their work and to be part of creating something meaningful.”

Announcing: New Year’s Eve Yoga @ Sanctuary

On Wednesday, December 31 at Sanctuary in Northampton, Sebastian Merrill will lead a New Years Eve workshop from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. The workshop will include joyful yoga, meditation, rest, and contemplation in-person at Sanctuary’s spacious and airy studio, located on Level 3 of Thornes Marketplace, and online.
